Rivlin send Erdogan condolences on Demirel’s death
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GooglePresident Reuven Rivlin sends a letter to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, expressing his condolences over the passing of Suleyman Demirel, Turkey’s ninth president.
Rivlin expresses his deep sympathy to the Turkish people and the grieving family of Demirel, whom he calls a great statesman.
Demirel was the first Turkish president to host his Israeli counterpart on Turkish soil and worked to increase Israeli-Turkish relations.
Rivlin sends the letter despite the rift in Israeli-Turkish ties and Erdogan’s consistent criticism of Israel.
