Security cabinet meeting ends, reportedly without discussion of temporary ceasefire

The security cabinet has ended its meeting without discussing the 60-day ceasefire and hostage-release deal on the table, Hebrew media report.
The meeting lasted less than three hours and did not include a formal vote, Channel 12 reports. The meeting had been moved up so that ministers could attend a Jerusalem event hosted by the West Bank’s Binyamin Regional Council.
It took place in the shadow of a day of mass, nationwide protests for a deal to bring back the 50 hostages still held by terror groups in Gaza, and against the government’s plans to escalate the war with the impending conquest of Gaza City. Protesters demonstrated outside the meeting as it took place at the Prime Minister’s Office.
Channel 12 reports that Israel has emphasized to Egypt that it is not interested in a phased agreement and will only negotiate over a comprehensive deal. The agreement on the table, which Egypt said Hamas had agreed to, reportedly includes a 60-day truce that would see the release of 10 living hostages.
According to the network, the government’s stance has not changed, in that it is moving ahead with its expanded offensive in Gaza City to pressure Hamas into agreeing to a comprehensive agreement.
