A mass gathering of ultra-Orthodox protesters is angrily rallying outside the Beit Lid military prison following the arrest of a Haredi youth who was detained after showing up at an enlistment center to seek an exemption.

According to Hebrew media reports, UTJ lawmaker Yitzhak Goldknopf is in attendance at the protest, which is made up largely of youth from the Gur Hasidic dynasty.

Some of the protesters are reportedly trying to break past the gate of the military base where the prison is situated.

Separately, approximately hundreds of Hasidic protesters have gathered outside the home of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara in Tel Aviv. They are shouting slogans against the attorney general and clashing with angry passersby.

Last week, the Knesset passed a highly controversial bill halting the arrests of Haredi draft dodgers, but the law was almost immediately frozen by the High Court pending a hearing.
