A 55-year-old man drowned at the beach near the Royal Beach hotel in Tel Aviv on Thursday.
Magen David Adom paramedics attempted resuscitation but were forced to pronounce him dead at the scene.
The hot weather on Independence Day encouraged thousands of Israelis to head for the seaside.
Also Thursday, two 15-year-old girls from the Galilee who had been celebrating overnight were treated for alcohol poisoning. One was in serious condition and was being treated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Ziv Medical Center in Safed. The second girl was in moderate condition, and still being treated in the emergency room.
A 19-year-old motorcyclist from Kibbutz Galil was seriously injured in an accident. He was also taken to the intensive care unit at Ziv Medical Center.

A two-year-old girl was lightly injured and a 40-year-old woman was moderately injured after a tree collapsed on Ibn Gabirol Street in Tel Aviv. The woman was taken to the city’s Ichilov Hospital.
