A man was killed in a fire that broke out next to a restaurant in the central Israel city of Kafr Qasim early Monday morning.

Firefighters worked to put out the fire and then entered the building, extracting the 19-year-old Palestinian West Bank resident, according to the Magen David Adom ambulance service.

The man was unconscious and had no vital signs, and paramedics eventually declared him dead at the scene, MDA said.

There were no other reports of injuries. It was unclear what the building was used for and why the man was there at the time.

According to the statement, the fire had spread to the restaurant and to other nearby shops before it was put out.

The tragedy came less than a day after two siblings — a two-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy — died in a house fire in the southern Bedouin town of Tel Sheva.
