Two soldiers were seriously injured in separate incidents on Monday, one in a training accident in northern Israel and another during operational activity in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
In the first incident, a cadet in the IDF officers’ training school was badly hurt during a training exercise at a base in northern Israel. According to the military, the cadet served in the Gefen Battalion at the Bahad 1 officers’ school.
In a separate incident the same day, a soldier from the Golani Brigade’s 13th Battalion was seriously injured after falling from a height, in what the IDF described as an operational accident in the southern Gaza Strip.
Both soldiers were evacuated to hospitals for medical treatment, and their families were notified, the military said.
According to IDF data, 2,414 soldiers have been injured in operational accidents since the start of the war triggered by the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, onslaught.
Overall, 6,419 Israeli soldiers have been injured since the war began, with 151 currently hospitalized, according to the military.
“The IDF is making extensive efforts to reduce and prevent operational accidents. Every incident is investigated, and lessons are drawn from it,” a military official told The Times of Israel.
“IDF commanders prioritize safety and the professionalism of the fighters, which is reflected in the organization of training programs, ongoing supervision and control by qualified commanders and professionals, and the implementation of safety and medical procedures during training,” the official added.
