The body of a man in his 20s was discovered Tuesday evening by emergency divers near the Arik Bridge, just north of the Sea of Galilee in the Golan Heights. The man had gone swimming nearby earlier Tuesday and was carried away by the current in the Jordan River, according to eyewitnesses.
Volunteers from the Golan Rescue Unit were alerted by visitors to the area, popular for hiking, who saw the young man enter the water and disappear.
Police are searching for individuals with whom the man may have been traveling.
Hundreds of thousands of Israelis went out to the nation’s parks and beaches on Tuesday, as high temperatures were recorded over the Passover holiday.
