A man was killed early Thursday morning after his car slammed into the back of a truck on Route 4.

An initial police investigation found that the truck was pulled over on the shoulder of the road when the car hit it.
The driver of the car was declared dead at the scene.
Police are seeking to determine whether the truck driver had left sufficient room for cars to pass his vehicle, if he had turned on his blinkers, and if, as required by law, he had placed a triangular warning sign in the road behind the truck to warn approaching vehicles, Channel 2 reported.

The accident occurred close to the Holot junction.
Route 4, a major highway that runs parallel to the coastal road, was closed northbound in the area of the accident as police investigated the incident.
Traffic was diverted to alternative routes, primarily along route 20.
