An Israeli man was stabbed and lightly-to-moderately wounded in the central Israeli city of Ra’anana on Wednesday night, a police spokesperson said.

After initial uncertainty, police determined the motive was not terror, spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said.

The assailant fled the scene shortly after the attack, prompting a manhunt by police, Rosenfeld said.

The victim was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, according to Ohad Bain, one of the paramedics who treated him.

The approximately 29-year-old victim received some medical treatment on the scene before being taken to Meir Medical Center in nearby Kfar Saba for further care, the Magen David Adom rescue service said.

“On the way to the hospital he communicated with us. His condition was determined to be moderate to serious, but stable,” Bain said.

The stabbing took place on Ahuza Street, a main thoroughfare in the city.
