The Ramat Gan Safari announced on Tuesday that a rare white rhinoceros born there last week is to be named Teshi. The newborn rhinoceros is the first female born in the Safari in over 20 years.

Safari spokeswoman Sagit Horowitz said that the calf was named Teshi which means “joyful and happy” in Swahili, and seems to suit the newborn’s playful nature.

Although mother Tanda had given birth to two male rhinoceroses in the past several years, the birth of the Safari’s first female calf has caused much excitement, as Teshi will stay at the Safari to boost the reproduction rates of the endangered species.
