A woman was shot in the chest moments after accepting her boyfriend’s marriage proposal on Valentine’s Day.
Mor Gelfand, 24, was in moderate condition Saturday after apparently being struck in the chest by a stray bullet on Friday night during a weekend trip to a vacation lodge near the northern city of Carmiel. She was taken by Magen David Adom paramedics to Ziv Hospital in Safed, and was well enough to speak to reports about the incident on Saturday afternoon.
Initial investigations by the police found that Gelfand and her partner were leaving their room at the lodge, at Moshav Hazon in the Western Galilee, when she was hit by the bullet. It is believed to have been a stray shot fired by a hunter in the area.
Gelfand told Channel 2 from her hospital bed that just after her boyfriend proposed, “We started taking pictures, and suddenly we heard shots coming from [the direction of] my cabin.”
“My friend Rinat ran and said, ‘Hide!'” Gelfand recounted.
“I just tried to lie on the ground and hide, and then I felt the bullet in the chest.”
