A man was killed in the northern city of Kiryat Ata Sunday after apparently unintentionally discharging his licensed weapon.

First responders called to the scene found the 23-year-old man in his apartment, unconscious and with gunshot wounds to his abdomen and legs, according to a United Hatzalah statement.

Together with Magen David Adom paramedics, they tried to resuscitate the victim and took him to Rambam Medical Center in Haifa in critical condition.

Doctors declared his death shortly after his arrival. His family was notified.

Police said that according to a preliminary investigation, the incident was self-inflicted and an accident. Its circumstances were not immediately clear.
