Greek energy firm Energean is expected to begin extracting gas from Israel’s offshore Karish gas field “within weeks” the company says.
“Energean remains on track to deliver first gas from the Karish development project within weeks,” it says in a press release.
The field has been at the center of a maritime border dispute between Israel and Lebanon. Recent reports and official statements have indicated that the sides are nearing an agreement after over a year of off-again, on-again talks.

The Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group, which opposes Lebanese concessions in the US-brokered negotiations, has threatened gas extraction installations moving into Karish.
In July, Hezbollah launched four unarmed drones toward the gas field, which were downed by the Israeli military. And last month, the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, warned that “any arm” it sees as reaching to steal Lebanon’s wealth “will be cut off.”
