Lapid pans Netanyahu’s Congress speech

Yesh Atid party leader Yair Lapid says that Netanyahu’s anticipated March 3 speech before the US Congress is a political gambit aimed at getting a leg up ahead of the March elections.

“Netanyahu’s speech is part of his complete disconnect, it comes with the plane and the pistachio ice cream,” he tells Walla news, referring to the prime minister’s spending scandals. “This is someone who’s involved only in himself, in his survival and in the desire to sit in the [prime minister’s] chair.”

Scheduling the speech in Washington so close to the March 17 elections “is total proof that it’s not the Iranian issue that drives him, but rather giving a campaign speech which will help him here in Israel.”
