Report: Iran willing to limit uranium enrichment to prevent sanctions, attacks

The Telegraph reports that Iran has signaled it would be willing to scale back its uranium enrichment program in a bid to prevent Britain from reinstating United Nations sanctions.

The report cites unnamed Iranian officials who say Tehran is prepared to ease its hardline position to head off the threat of further strikes from Israel or the US.

It further says that Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and newly appointed secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, is pushing leaders to agree to curb uranium enrichment from 60% to 20% purity.

European nations have warned that without tangible progress on the nuclear issue by the end of the month, they are prepared to enact “snapback” sanctions on Iran removed as part of the 2015 nuclear deal.
