Russia calls on Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon, warns ground op will lead to more violence

MOSCOW — Russia calls on Israel to withdraw troops from Lebanon and warns that the attack will lead to a further escalation of violence in the Middle East.

Israel said commando and paratroop units launched raids into Lebanon this morning as part of a “limited” ground incursion, while Iran-backed Hezbollah fired a barrage of missiles into Israel, claiming to target an IDF intelligence base near Herzliya in central Israel.

“Russia strongly condemns the attack on Lebanon and calls on the Israeli authorities to immediately cease hostilities, withdraw their troops from Lebanese territory and engage in a real search for peaceful ways to resolve the Middle East conflict,” Russia’s foreign ministry says.
