Shas denies taking part in effort to oust Edelstein, calls it internal Likud matter

The ultra-Orthodox Shas party denies being involved in the vote to replace Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Yuli Edelstein, calling it an internal Likud issue.
“Shas is not involved at all in the issue of appointing the chairman of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. Our only demand to the prime minister is to fulfill his commitment to regulating the status of Torah scholars,” the ultra-Orthodox party says in a statement. “All other issues are the internal affairs of the Likud faction.”
This afternoon, Likud lawmakers are slated to vote on a replacement for Edelstein over his refusal to advance a conscription bill based on a compromise reached with the Haredi parties last month as part of an effort to prevent them from toppling the government ahead of the war with Iran.
