US President Donald Trump is touting his endorsees’ victories in statewide Republican primaries with Truth Social posts, now standard fare, while also celebrating the defeat of Alex Vindman to a member of the Democratic Socialists of America in the Democratic primary.
“SleazeBag Vindman loses tonight to a Radical Left Lunatic. How cool is that???” Trump posts to his Truth Social platform.
Vindman, a Kyiv-born Jewish refugee from the former Soviet Union who was a member of the National Security Council in the US, rose to prominence in 2019 when he testified to Congress about a controversial phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during Trump’s first impeachment.
Despite raising 16 times more than his main opponent, Vindman, whose twin brother is a congressman in Virginia, was handily defeated by Angie Nixon, who has made noise in her party for pushing pro-Palestinian legislation on the state level.
Trump’s congratulatory posts, an attempt to burnish the power of his endorsement in Republican primaries, have been arriving in a steady beat every election night.
“A lot of great WINS tonight!!!” the president writes.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
