Turkish FM to meet Hamas chief in Qatar for truce talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu is set to meet Hamas chief Khaled Mashaal in Qatar later today to discuss a proposal for a week-long humanitarian ceasefire.

The Turkish FM is also set to meet Qatari Foreign Minister Khaled bin Muhammad al-Atiyah.

The 7-day lull is put forth jointly by the US, Qatar and Turkey, the Turkish Daily Hurriyet reports, and proposes the sides sit down for long-term negotiations during the timeout.

The paper reports that a senior Turkish government official is in direct contact with a close adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, despite the harsh statements made by both Davutoglu and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in recent days, including comments in which he called Israel more barbaric than Hitler.
