Ukraine says areas near Kharkiv, Donbas taken back from Russia
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe Ukrainian army says it has recaptured nearly two dozen towns near Kharkiv and territory in Donbas and southern Ukraine, in a counteroffensive against invading Russian troops.
Ukrainian “military units have penetrated 50 kilometers (31 miles) beyond the enemy lines. During active operations in the Kharkiv area, more than 20 settlements have been liberated,” says senior military official Oleksiy Gromov.
Gromov adds that Kyiv’s troops have advanced “deep” into Russian lines and “recaptured several settlements” in southern Ukraine.
Ukrainian forces had also made gains in the eastern Donbas region, including around Kramatorsk and Sloviansk, he says.
