Zionist Union MK Shelly Yachimovich writes on Facebook that David Gilo’s resignation is “nothing less than a bombshell” and a “huge hit to the public in Israel.”
“It is shameful that the government caters to capital holders in such a servile manner and makes its most senior regulator, the Antitrust Authority chief, to step down.”
Yachimovich says Gilo’s resignation is “the result of a violent pressure campaign by the gas tycoons and their minions in the government and I call on Gilo, a super-professional, solid, honest and esteemed person to take back his resignation. For us, for the public in Israel.”
“Gilo understood the obvious: It cannot be that our gas treasures will be deposited with the Tshuva-Noble Energy monopoly, it cannot be that a private monopoly holds the country by the throat and determines everything: the state’s revenue, the cost of living, the fate of industry and employment and our energy independence,” writes Yachimovich.
“If a professional of the first degree, an academic with international reputation with a record like the one Prof. Gilo has prefers to resign solely in order not to have his name connected to this program – then this is telling in itself,” Yachimovich writes, finishing her post with a call to the Israeli public to write to his office and ask him not to resign. She provides the Antitrust Authority’s email address: lishka@aa.gov.il.
