Man suspected of killing his father, then jumping to his death in Haifa

Sister alerts police after violent argument broke out between two; son believed to have beheaded his parent before leaping from eighth floor

Police in Haifa said Monday that a man killed his father, then jumped out a window to his death.

After receiving a report of cries for help coming from the apartment, officers went to the location on the northern port city’s Leon Blum Street.

Haifa police station commander Chief Superintendent Haim Azrad said the alert came from the murdered man’s daughter, 24, who had been in the apartment but heard the violent fight break out when she left, the Walla outlet reported.

Azrad said the son, in his 40s, killed his father, who was 65.

“It is a very cruel murder,” he said. “The son cut off the father’s head and threw it out of the window. Then he jumped from a window on the other side [of the apartment].”

Officers arrived within four minutes, Azrad said, and found the father dead in the eighth-floor apartment and his son’s body on the ground outside the building near the parking lot.

It was the second gruesome homicide in the city in the past few months. In August police said the badly composed body of a man was found hidden behind a wall in an apartment building, but the prime suspect had died the week before.
