Palestinian to be charged with murdering Arab Israeli woman as she birthed their son

A West Bank Palestinian man is to be charged with the murder of an Israeli woman, whom he allegedly killed as she was giving birth to their baby, the Israel Police said Monday.
The Kan public broadcaster identified the victim as Islam Tawil, 24, a resident of East Jerusalem.
After her partner killed her, he burned her body, which was found with a newborn boy still attached to her via the umbilical cord, police said. The 35-year-old suspect, a resident of the West Bank village of A-Ram just outside Jerusalem, also later sold her car.
Police said an investigation was opened after the Palestinian Authority notified Israeli authorities on April 1 that the burned body of the victim was found in the village.
The investigation, some of which was conducted undercover, lasted several weeks, during which dozens of suspects were detained, until eventually the woman’s partner and father of their child was arrested.
Prosecutors on Sunday announced that they intend to file charges for aggravated murder against the suspect. The indictment is expected in the coming days.
According to the anti-violence group the Abraham Initiatives, since the beginning of the year, 93 members of Israel’s Arab community have died in violent circumstances. Of those, five were women.
