A member of an Israeli crime family was arrested at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday on suspicion of involvement in the attempted murder of a rival crime syndicate’s leader several years ago, police said.
The suspect was on his way to a family vacation abroad when his name apparently came up on a flagged list. He was taken into police custody and will be brought before a judge to extend his remand.
The arrest was the latest in an ongoing underworld arrest operation dubbed “Case 512” and described as one of the largest underworld busts in Israel’s history. It encompasses some 40 individual investigations into crimes committed over the past 12 years by some 50 suspects, police said earlier this week.
Over the past week police have apprehended over 50 suspects across Israel, with officers seizing vehicles, properties and bank accounts.
