A 2-year-old boy was in serious but stable condition Thursday after being accidentally shot by his brother the previous evening.

The boy, from the Galilee village of Bir al-Maksur, was shot in the head after his brothers pulled out their father’s gun and began playing with it, relatives told the Ynet news site.

He underwent emergency surgery at Haifa’s Rambam Medical Center after being resuscitated by Magen David Adom paramedics.

Detectives and police from Shfaram were in Bir al-Maksur following the incident to investigate the circumstances.

The father was said to have recently enlisted in the police.
