A Palestinian driver suspected of attempting to run over an Israeli soldier Tuesday at the Gush Etzion junction was arrested several hours later in the Palestinian town of Halhul, near the West Bank city of Hebron, in a joint operation of the IDF and the Shin Bet security service.
The suspect, who had been driving a vehicle with Palestinian license plates, was taken to an Israeli security facility for questioning, a statement by the IDF spokesman’s office read.
The soldier who was the target of the apparent attack suffered light injuries and was treated at the scene, the Ynet news site reported.
The junction, a busy intersection on the road between Jerusalem and Hebron, has been the scene of several attacks in past months.
Last month, a Palestinian man was arrested after attempting to stab an IDF soldier at the site. No injuries were reported in the incident. and Golani Brigade soldiers at the scene detained the suspect.
