Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi is not only a divisive figure among the Egyptian people, he’s also proving to be a home-wrecker, coming between husbands and wives — sometimes with violent results.
An Egyptian woman filed for divorce from her husband recently, telling the court that he beat her on several occasions for speaking about Morsi in a “disrespectful way,” Al Arabiya reported on Wednesday.
The husband told the court that his wife continually mocked the embattled president.
According to the Egyptian press, the violence was such that the woman was often forced to leave her home and stay with her parents. The couple has been married for 12 years.
“I cannot live with him anymore,” said the woman, as quoted by al-Masry al-Youm. “We’ve been fighting over this for eight months.”
