Maccabi Tel Aviv beat Armenians Alashkert 4-1 as fellow Israeli side Maccabi Haifa drew 0-0 with Dutch outfit Feyenoord in the opening games of the new Europa Conference League.

Croatian forward Stipe Perica scored the first goal of the competition as he put Tel Aviv into the lead after 13 minutes.

The remainder of the first round of group games will be played on Thursday.

The main picks of the ties see Tottenham head to Rennes and Roma host CSKA Sofia.

The newly launched third-tier Europa Conference League welcomed 181 clubs this season.

Maccabi Tel Aviv’s next game will be against Austrian LASK, which on paper will supposedly be the most difficult matchup for the Israeli team.
