State prosecutors file an indictment today against a 27-year-old man from Be’er Yaakov, charging him with espionage on behalf of Iran after he was arrested by police last month.
According to the indictment, Or Beilin was in contact over Telegram for four months with his Iranian handler, who went by the alias “Yoni” and tasked him with missions harming state security.
He received around $9,000 in cryptocurrency for spraying political graffiti, buying and burning IDF uniforms, inquiring about buying a drone and leaving sums of cash in various public places throughout the country, according to prosecutors.
Beilin is charged with maintaining contact with a foreign agent, and prosecutors have requested he remain in custody for the remainder of the legal proceedings against him.
Beilin’s public defender formerly requested he be released on bail, Channel 12 reported last month, claiming that he had severed contact with the agent once he realized he was an Iranian operative.
