Following a statement earlier today by King Charles III that the British government will take immediate action to tackle antisemitism after a string of attacks targeting Jews, the Board of Deputies of British Jews calls on the government to follow through on that pledge.

“My government will take urgent action to tackle antisemitism and ensure all communities feel safe,” the king said earlier, as he delivered the British government’s legislative program for the coming year to lawmakers at the ceremonial opening of Parliament.

Board of Deputies Acting President Adrian Cohen welcomed the commitment, which, he says, “reflects the ongoing seriousness and urgency of the situation.”

“We also welcome the confirmation that the government will introduce legislation to tackle the growing threat from foreign state entities and their proxies,” he says in a statement, referring to reports of some of the attacks being linked to Iran. “We call on the government to enact these powers without further delay and use them as quickly as possible to proscribe Iranian-backed threats, including the IRGC.”
