Hamas chief says restoring calm in Gaza ‘possible’

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh says that restoring calm in and around the Gaza Strip is possible if Israel agrees to stop all retaliatory strikes in the Palestinian enclave.

“Returning the calm is possible, and maintaining it depends entirely on the occupation’s commitment to a complete ceasefire,” Haniyeh is quoted as saying in Palestinian news reports.

He says any ceasefire must extend to the participants in March of Return protests along the Israel-Gaza border.
