Man injured in Manchester synagogue attack out of hospital

A man injured during the terror attack on a Manchester synagogue on Yom Kippur has been released from the hospital, British media report, citing police.

Yoni Finlay, 39, was hit by a bullet fired by police responding to a stabbing attack at the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation on October 2. He was said to be helping to barricade the doors of the synagogue to protect other worshipers when he was shot by mistake.

Greater Manchester Police say that Finlay was released from medical care on Wednesday, during the Simchat Torah holiday. He had reportedly undergone seven hours of surgery immediately following the attack.

Two other men injured in the attack remain hospitalized in stable condition, police say. Andrew Franks was stabbed by the attacker, Jihad Al-Shamie, while a security guard, whose name was given as Bernard, was hit by Al-Shamie’s car.

Two men, Melvin Cravitz, 66, and Adrian Daulby, 53, were killed in the attack, committed on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.

Manchester police indicate in a statement that they are scaling back increased patrols around places of worship across their jurisdiction, including Jewish communities in north Manchester, Bury and Salford after two weeks that stretched manpower.

“As we move back towards more regular resourcing, we remain committed to ensuring our communities – particularly the Jewish community – continue to be in the forefront of our plans to keep the public safe,” police say in a statement.
