Palestinians say truce reached with Israel to end deadly Gaza flareup

Palestinian leaders in Gaza say they have agreed to a ceasefire with Israel to end a deadly two-day escalation in violence that threatened to widen into war, according to officials with knowledge of the deal.

The IDF declines to comment on the deal, but there appears to have been no rocket fire or Israeli strikes after it was due to take effect.

An official from the strip’s Islamist rulers, the Hamas terror group, and another from its allied group Islamic Jihad say Egypt brokered the agreement to cease hostilities from 4:30 a.m.

An Egyptian official also confirms the deal on condition of anonymity.

The deal comes after the most serious flareup in violence between Israel and Palestinian terrorist groups in Gaza since the 2014 war.
