Ruti Munder, who was released yesterday from Hamas captivity after 49 days, says she learned that her son Roy was killed during Hamas’s October 7 massacre while listening to the radio.

The revelation offers some of the first details regarding the conditions in which some of the hostages have been held.

Footage the Munder family okayed for release to the press shows Ruti Munder, 78, hugging her family and saying that she’s okay but that she knows Roy was killed during the onslaught from listening to the radio, but she wasn’t sure how he was killed.

The footage also shows Keren Munder, Ruti’s daughter, who was also released yesterday, with her 9-year-old son, Ohad, ask about the fate of her father, 78-year-old Avraham Munder. Her family member confirms that Munder is being held in captivity, and Keren is seen replying: “so he wasn’t murdered.”

The footage reveals that not all family members taken hostage were held together in Gaza and did not necessarily know about the fate of each other.

Munder’s niece tells Ynet that the family had been agonizing over how they were going to share the news about Roy to Ruti, Keren and Ohad.
