A two-minute siren is now sounding throughout Israel and the country comes to a standstill as it marks Holocaust Remembrance Day with various state ceremonies and events.

The main state ceremony is being held at Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem museum.

The siren has one continuous tone, unlike alerts warning of rocket attacks, which rise and fall repeatedly. In the event of an attack on Israel during the siren, the siren will be halted, and instead, a warning siren will sound.
