US: No new nuclear offer for Iran’s next leader
State Department says there are no plans to sweeten any offers in wake of Rowhani election victory

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Obama administration will not welcome the election of a relative moderate as Iran’s next president with any new nuclear offer. A State Department spokeswoman says it is up to Tehran to compromise.
Jen Psaki told reporters Monday the U.S. is open to new nuclear talks with Iran. But Washington and its international partners first want a response to an offer of sanctions relief for Iranian nuclear concessions they presented in April.
The U.S. fears Iran may be developing nuclear weapons. Iran says its program is for peaceful energy and research purposes.
Iranian cleric Hasan Rowhani’s election win has raised hopes of greater flexibility, even if Iran’s ayatollah makes all final decisions on the matter.
Psaki said the U.S. will not sweeten any offers.
