Twenty-one children aged 6 to 13 were lightly injured Thursday after a carousel ride at a Tel Aviv amusement park malfunctioned.

Medical teams that arrived at the scene in Luna Park treated the children for minor wounds to their limbs and rushed them to nearby hospitals for further care.

Officials from the Economy and Trade Ministry launched an investigation into the accident.

Witnesses at the site said the ride had come to an abrupt stop, which resulted in the carousels’ seats and passengers crashing into one another.

Several light bulbs on the ride shattered and injured the children as well, the witnesses said.

The amusement park’s management stated that the accident was due to a technical malfunction and that the exact circumstances were under investigation.

It said that the ride had been shut down until the source of the malfunction was uncovered and fixed.
