Ali Sa’id Abu Ghanem, a 16-year-old Palestinian resident of East Jerusalem who was killed attempting to stab soldiers at a checkpoint on Saturday, was buried last night, Israel Radio reported.

Abu Ghanem had tried to stab a Border Police officer with a butcher knife at the A-Zayyim checkpoint on the Jerusalem-Ma’ale Adumim road on Saturday. Soldiers fired warning shots into the air and then fired to “neutralize” him, a police spokeswoman said. According to army officials, he had been carrying two knives.

He was buried in the Jerusalem neighborhood of A-Tur, where he lived.

Approximately 200 people attended his funeral. Some of those present wore masks and fired shots into the air.
