BAKU, Azerbaijan (AP) — Israeli Shahar Peer advanced to the semifinals of the Baku Cup by beating Tadeja Majeric of Slovenia 6-0, 6-4 Friday.

The 149th-ranked Peer, who is looking for her sixth career title, will next face Polish qualifier Magda Linette.

Linette advanced to her first semifinal match on the WTA Tour when wild-card entry Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, leading 6-3, 4-1, retired with an injury.

Seventh-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine advanced to her second semifinal in as many weeks by beating second-seeded Donna Vekic of Croatia 6-2, 6-3. She will next play either Galina Voskoboeva or fourth-seeded Alexandra Cadantu.

Peer, who held the highest ranking of any Israeli ever when she reached #11 in 2011, has been in a slump since, failing to earn a spot in any WTA singles finals.
