Israel will send an additional five-ton aid shipment of medical supplies to assist quake-stricken Colombia this Saturday night, one week after Israel’s aid delegation arrived in the country, the Foreign Ministry announces.

“After the arrival in the country of the joint Foreign Ministry–Home Front Command rescue and humanitarian aid delegation… an additional five-ton aid shipment will depart for Colombia on Saturday night, containing medical equipment for initial emergency response,” the ministry says.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar adds, “Israel will continue to stand by its friend Colombia and the Colombian people, and will assist them to the best of its ability.”

The 80-strong aid team is currently the largest operating in Colombia following devastating earthquakes in the country, assisting with search-and-rescue efforts as well as helping local authorities with engineering assessments of damaged buildings, according to Brig. Gen. (Res.) Yossi Pinto, commander of the IDF National Search and Rescue Unit and leader of the delegation.
