‘Bankrupt’ contractor arrested on suspicion of hiding millions; key Likud official said implicated

Police arrested a construction contractor suspected of hiding tens of millions of shekels in real estate assets from tax authorities despite undergoing bankruptcy proceedings since 2012, authorities say.

According to a police statement, the Lahav 433 major crimes unit arrested the contractor this morning, and also hauled in several other people on suspicion of involvement.

Hebrew media report that the suspects include a former lawmaker from the Likud party who still holds a key position in the ruling faction.

“The investigation suggests the suspects acted systematically to hide their holdings from the authorities and rake in enormous sums,” police say, adding that officers confiscated “much property” and will keep withholding it throughout the legal proceedings.
