New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch attended Friday night services at Manhattan’s Central Synagogue last night, a week after an assailant disrupted Shabbat services and attacked a guard and a congregant, in what is being investigated as a hate crime.
New York’s ABC 7 News reports that Tisch led a prayer during the services and spoke to congregants.
“As a proud Jew and lifelong member of this congregation, you have my word that I stand with you in these uncertain and precarious times,” Tisch told a packed congregation, according to the reports
Also in attendance was Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who said he attended out of solidarity.
“There’s this sense of amity and respect and neighborliness and to see that every religion was represented tonight in just solidarity and accompaniment with this cheerful community. I’m thrilled,” Cardinal Dolan, one of the most senior catholic figures in the US, said, according to ABC 7.
