Sissi vows to broker Gaza truce

In a phone conversation with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas last night, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi promises to help broker a ceasefire in Gaza.

Sissi promises that Egypt will exert pressure to end the Israeli strikes on Gaza and ensure the safety of the Palestinians, the Ma’an news agency quotes Abbas as saying.

The Egyptian leader also calls for the escalation to stop and for Gaza to avoid “dangerous attacks” so that a truce can be reached quickly.

At 3:30 p.m. this afternoon, Abbas will convene the Palestinian leadership at the Muqata in Ramallah to discuss the escalation.
