A fuel tanker that suffered an explosion off the western coast of Saudi Arabia earlier today was attacked by an explosives-laden boat, state media reports, calling it a “terrorist” attack.
“A fuel transport ship, anchored in the fuel terminal in Jeddah, was attacked by an explosive-laden boat in the early hours of this morning,” the official Saudi Press Agency says, citing an energy ministry spokesman.
It does not say who was behind the assault.
The Singapore-flagged BW Rhine saw all 22 sailors on board escape without injury, the BW Group said in a statement. The company warned it was possible some oil had leaked out from the site of the blast.
