The Democrats said to demand security protection for Yair Golan amid threats

The Democrats chairman Yair Golan requests government security protection following what he describes as threats against his life, the Walla news site reports.
Writing to Central Elections Committee chairman Noam Sohlberg and Shin Bet chief David Zini, Golan reportedly cites a number of social media posts calling for him to receive “a bullet to the head” and talking about his “grave.”
One post calls to “gouge out” his eyes, claiming that he and his family deserve to be hanged because he “caused a second Holocaust to the Jewish people.”
Walla cites a party spokesperson as saying that “the police raised the threat assessment level for” Golan to level 4, and it demands security for him “against the backdrop of threats to his life.”
According to Channel 12, the Shin Bet on Monday allowed Yashar chairman Gadi Eisenkot’s private guards to carry weapons, in an apparent compromise after the security agency turned down a request to provide an official security detail for the election frontrunner.
The decision by Zini, chief of the domestic security agency, came as concern has risen across the ideological spectrum about political violence ahead of the October 27 election. His initial denial of Eisenkot’s security also sparked sharp criticism from opposition politicians.
