Three Palestinians from the West Bank town of Sa’ir were detained by Israeli troops overnight for allegedly hurling stones at Israeli settlers who were on an “unauthorized hike” in the area.
Police say that the trio — two brothers aged 51 and 45 and another man aged 46 — along with others, threw stones at the hikers from the nearby settlement of Metzad.
During the incident, the security coordinator for Metzad rushed to the scene and opened fire. Palestinian health officials said the gunfire killed a 17-year-old and wounded another man.
Police say the three suspects, after being detained by the army, are being questioned, and “depending on the findings of their investigation, a decision will be made regarding further proceedings against them.”
Investigators are working to locate other suspects involved in the stone-throwing, police add.
No Israelis have been arrested over the incident, which the IDF said yesterday disrupted its counter-terrorism activities in the West Bank.
