The British government has blocked US rapper Kanye West from entering Britain on grounds that his presence would not be conducive to the public good, UK media reports.
The update follows mounting criticism over his booking as a headline act at the Wireless music festival in London, set to be held in July.
West, now known as Ye, has made multiple public antisemitic remarks since fall 2022, when he first threatened to go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”
Last year the rapper bought a Super Bowl ad to promote T-shirts with swastikas on them, then released a song titled “Heil Hitler,” to mark the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany in World War II.
He has since expressed regret over his multiple antisemitic rants, which he blamed on his bipolar disorder.
The United Kingdom is seeing soaring antisemitic attacks and incidents, with many in the Jewish community blaming authorities for not taking strong enough action on the matter.
Help us report truthfully on social media
As a multimedia journalist, my job is to take the quality, fact-based journalism produced by The Times of Israel newsroom and make it accessible across every platform — from Instagram posts to podcasts to short-form videos.
This is how many, especially young people, consume news these days. But misinformation is rampant on social media. Our team at ToI produces accurate, responsible short-form reporting on Israel and the Jewish world.
If you believe in the importance of factual social media journalism, please consider joining our reader support group, The Times of Israel Community. Your financial support is essential to sustain responsible multimedia reporting.
