2 soldiers hurt in Hezbollah missile attack; IDF says it hit 600 of terror group’s targets

Two soldiers were moderately wounded in a Hezbollah missile attack on an Israeli military position in southern Lebanon on Friday afternoon, the Israel Defense Forces announced Saturday, as the IDF said it had struck 600 targets of the Lebanese terror group in recent days.

Hezbollah began firing missiles at Israel on Monday, days after the US and Israel launched strikes on the Iranian regime, the group’s sponsor.

In response, Israel launched an offensive aimed at pushing Hezbollah away from the border and eliminating its threat, and has expanded its presence in southern Lebanon.

On Saturday, Hezbollah launched dozens of rockets and drones from Lebanon at northern Israel, with no reports of injuries.

Several large barrages of rockets were launched toward Haifa and Kiryat Shmona in the evening. The IDF said it struck and destroyed a Hezbollah rocket launcher shortly after it was used to fire a barrage at northern Israel’s Galilee region.

Earlier in the day, rocket sirens sounded in Safed, Tiberias, and Kiryat Shmona amid attacks from Lebanon. Sirens also sounded across the Galilee and the Golan Heights. There were no reports of injuries in any of the attacks.

One Hezbollah drone crashed in the parking lot of the Galilee Medical Center in the northern city of Nahariya in the morning. The drone appeared largely intact after crashing, and no injuries were reported.

At the same time, a civil defense squad for a nearby community shot down another Hezbollah drone with their firearms, police said. The device was found to have cameras and “explosive material,” police added.

Another Hezbollah drone got caught in a tree in the border city of Kiryat Shmona, before being safely neutralized by sappers, police said.

In the Friday attack on troops, several anti-tank guided missiles were fired on soldiers, according to the IDF. Hezbollah took responsibility for the attack, which targeted the same army post the terror group had hit a day earlier in a strike that injured three troops, including one seriously.

The military said that minutes later, the Hezbollah cell that carried out the attack was targeted in a strike.

The two soldiers who were wounded serve in the Givati Brigade. They were taken to a hospital and their families were notified, the army said.

In all, 13 IDF soldiers have been wounded in attacks by Hezbollah since Monday.

Fresh strikes as Israel warns Lebanon of consequences

The IDF on Saturday confirmed launching a new wave of airstrikes on Beirut’s southern Dahiyeh district, a Hezbollah stronghold.

The military also reiterated an evacuation warning it had issued on Thursday for the district’s four major neighborhoods.

In a press statement on Saturday night, IDF spokesman Brig. Gen. Effie Defrin said the military was exacting “heavy prices” from Hezbollah and attacking its strongholds, “with the goal of protecting the towns and residents of the north.”

“We’re attacking many targets there, hunting Hezbollah terrorists and destroying the terror command posts it established in the heart of the civilian population,” Defrin said. “We won’t compromise on disarming Hezbollah.”

In his own statement Saturday night, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Lebanese government was responsible for disarming Hezbollah, as outlined in the November 2024 ceasefire agreement that ended over a year of hostilities initiated by the terror group.

“It’s your responsibility to enforce the ceasefire agreement,” Netanyahu told Beirut. “It’s your responsibility to disarm Hezbollah.”

Failure to do so will bring disaster upon Lebanon, Netanyahu warned, telling the government that “the time has come for you… to take your fate into your hands.”

Israel, said Netanyahu, “will do everything necessary to protect our towns and our citizens.”

Earlier in the day, Defense Minister Israel Katz also warned Lebanon that it would pay the “full price” if Hezbollah continued to threaten Israel, and accused Beirut of failing to meet its commitment to disarm the terror group.

The United Nations’ special coordinator for Lebanon urged the countries to enter talks to negotiate an end to the hostilities.

“As bad as things are today, they are set to get even worse,” Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert said. “Talks between Lebanon and Israel can be the game changer needed to save future generations from going, time and again, through the same nightmare.”

Israel continued to warn Lebanese civilians to evacuate amid its campaign against Hezbollah. Lebanon’s social affairs minister said on Saturday that 454,000 people had been registered as displaced since the outbreak of fighting.

Earlier this week, Israel warned residents of Beirut’s densely populated southern suburbs and hundreds of square kilometres of southern Lebanon to evacuate.

“Urgent warning to residents of the southern suburb of Beirut, especially those who have not yet evacuated. We reiterate and emphasize: save your lives and evacuate your homes immediately,” army spokesman Col. Avichay Adraee said Saturday.

“The terror activity carried out by Hezbollah in the suburb compels the IDF to act against it with force. We do not intend to harm you. For your safety and security, you must evacuate immediately,” he said.

The military has conducted dozens of strikes against Hezbollah targets in the area, including destroying several multi-story buildings.

The army also repeated its warning, first issued on Wednesday, to Lebanese civilians in all of southern Lebanon to evacuate amid the fighting against Hezbollah.

The army issued a separate evacuation warning on Saturday for several buildings in the coastal Lebanese city of Tyre, following which Lebanese media reported an Israeli airstrike in the area.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah taunted Israel with its own evacuation warnings for Nahariya and Kiryat Shmona.

Israel has said it is not evacuating any northern towns, after doing so in the prior conflict with Hezbollah in 2023-2024.

Speaking after a situation assessment with IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir and other senior defense officials, Katz said Israel would not allow attacks on its troops or communities from Lebanese territory.

In a statement criticizing Lebanon for doing too little to disarm Hezbollah, he addressed Lebanese President Joseph Aoun directly.

“You committed… to uphold the agreement and disarm Hezbollah, and that is not happening,” Katz said. “Act and take action before we do even more.”

Katz said Israel has no territorial demands from Lebanon but would not accept a return to years of cross-border attacks.

“If [Hassan] Nasrallah destroyed Lebanon, then Naim Qassem will destroy it as well along this path,” he warned.

Israel regularly struck Hezbollah targets in Lebanon following the 2024 agreement, accusing the terror group of ceasefire violations, and continued to hold on to five border posts inside Lebanon, citing security needs. It has now expanded beyond those points.

The Lebanese government, which has claimed it is worked to disarm Hezbollah, has slammed the organization’s renewed attacks on Israel, accusing the terror group of dragging Lebanon into a regional war.
