A 13-year-old was stabbed in the leg in a brawl with a fellow student in Hadera and a gunfight broke out between feuding families near a kindergarten in Hura, in cases of violence on the first day of the new academic year.

The teen boy was stabbed in the leg and moderately injured during a brawl with another student. He was taken to Hillel Yaffe Medical Center in Hadera, Magen David Adom paramedics say.

The second student was also injured in the fight, but did not require hospitalization.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the stabbing.

In the southern Bedouin town of Hura, a gunfight broke out between two feuding families near a kindergarten, police say.

Police arrested five people and seized two pistols from those involved in the gunfight. No injuries were reported.

Southern District officers had already been dispatched to the area to guard schools kicking off the academic year. They arrested three people at the scene and chased down two additional suspects who tried to flee.

One of the individuals who fled took off in his car and rammed into a police car, whereupon he was arrested, police say.
