Three American soldiers have been killed and five were seriously wounded amid the ongoing conflict with Iran, the US Central Command announces.

They mark the first American casualties reported in the ongoing conflict.

CENTCOM does not provide further details on the circumstances that led to the deaths and injuries of the US servicemembers.

Iran has targeted American military facilities in the Middle East with ballistic missiles and drones in the past day.

“Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions and are in the process of being returned to duty,” CENTCOM says, adding that “major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing.”
